So I'm already on my way with the new 101 list. Unfortunately I just realized that one might not be all that realistic. Communicating with my brother? I can't force him to respond to me. I can text him, email him, possibly even call him, but that doesn't mean he will ever respond. SO that might be a lost cause. OH well. All I can do is try.
But since I joined Match.com 2 weeks ago, I have been emailing a few guys. I figured when I joined, I would strike while the iron was hot. When someone first joins an online dating site, that new person is fresh meat! All the guys who have been on there now see a brand new person, not one of the same faces that keeps popping up in the search. A new person will get a LOT of emails and "winks". But that dies down once the newness wears off.
I wanted to go with the opportunity of being new, so I responded to more than I might have otherwise. Now I have narrowed down and thinned out how many I am still emailing with. BUT.. I have already had a date! So much for giving myself until March! :) I had a date last Monday on President's Day and him and I are going out again tonight. So far so good, but I'm not putting any expectations on it. Just going with it and having fun.
So... that's one crossed off. A date in February.

Yesterday I was at my parents house and picked up 2 rings at the jewelers I was having work done on. We ended up picking up my grandfather and took him out for dinner. That was nice. It was fun to spend time with him and the food was good too.
Here's something else for the updated 101 list. Believe it or not, I have never had Chicken Florentine! Not sure why, but just never have. This place has it with a marsala sauce, the chicken and spinach and mushrooms, but the chicken has prosciutto and cheese over it. SO yummy! With some angle hair pasta too!
Check 2 for the list of trying a new dish this month!
*************************************************************************************
And the third thing I crossed off my list was a night out with friends. We had the meetup for ballroom twice this month, and then we went out after for drinks. I love hanging out with them. SO there is another one! :)
*************************************************************************************
Well on my way to working out this list.
Otherwise, life is going ok. I'm sick of being sick, but at least being on meds from last week I feel much better. Still struggling with the long runs and training but I'll get there. I have to. I'm crossing the finish line in Boston in 7 weeks.

A Different Perspective
I remember that book from years ago, Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus. We all know that men and women are different and that we think differently. We have different perspectives on how we see the world.
Men view themselves differently as well. Once and a while they have those funny commercials where one guy asks another, "Do these pants make my butt look big?" Those are so funny because that would never happen. Guys don't think about how their butts look in their pants. Women do.
Women judge themselves against other women and against any possible way others may view them. Women are harder on themselves than anyone else could possibly be. They know every roll, every wrinkle and every dimple on their body. Where it is, and how long it has been there.
Then there is the different perspective. The male perspective. First off, men have no idea about all of our female insecurities. They don't know how we think about ourselves and our perceived flaws. Second, they don't see what we see as flaws. A wrinkle to one woman is a smile line well earned to the man that loves her... if he even notices it at all.
But one thing I have recently noticed is the difference in how men and women view themselves. Last week I joined Match.com. I remember months ago at a cookout, a group of women were talking about how to select their body type for online dating. Slender? Athletic? About Average? The guys that overheard us told us all to go for slender or athletic. None of us were average. Isn't the term average supposed to mean close to everyone else?
For my match.com profile, I selected "Athletic & Toned" for my body type. With all the fitness I do, the weight I lost and the life I live, I thought it was a good fit. I am still VERY aware of the parts that jiggle and where the dimples live, but toss me in a good pair of jeans and those are far from view.
For the men I was looking for, I gave careful consideration to what I was looking for. I'm generally not attracted to skinny guys, so I skipped the "Slender" option and with the active lifestyle I live, I'm not loooking for the "Few extra pounds", "Heavyset" or "Stocky" guys either. I ended up selecting "Athletic & Toned" and "About Average" for the two body types I was looking for in my search.
SO now when I go through the thousands of men in match, it will select those who "match" what I put in for my search options. 33-43 year old male living within so many miles of me with the height options I picked, divorced or never married (not separated), doesn't smoke, exercises at least twice a week and for wanting kids "someday" or "definitely".
As I scroll through the men that "match" my selections, I'm blown away. How these men consider themselves even "Average"? Um, can you say more than a few extra pounds? How is a man's opinion of himself so different than that of a woman's? Do they live in a delusion or just not care? Do they have such an inflated view of themself that they just see themselves through different a different lens? And can they market this lens for women?
I think all women need to take a page from the book men read. We need to see ourselves as our best selves and push off small limits or flaws so they don't even exist. We don't need to worry if our butts look big. Men don't. Why should we?

101 NEW Things.
I originally started this blog almost 2 years ago because of my 101 things list. I just re-read that list. Although I have done several things on that list, many really just don't apply to what I want in my life anymore. I'm thinking of coming up with a new 101 list to start over with. But seeing as it takes me HOURS to come up with my New Years list, doing a brand new 101 things to do in 1001 days could take even longer!
But I know that list isn't what I want anymore. And sadly, I kind of even stopped checking it! :( I just do my thing now. So...
Well, I tried to use their website, but kept getting kicked off! I added at least a dozen things and NOT ONE SAVED! Hmm.. I've been having all sorts of issues like that with electronics today. Wonder if Mercury is in retrograde or something! FRUSTRATING!
So I guess if I have to start a new list, I will have to do it here. But I will have to come up with new ideas. Some thing that are still on my list, I will want to keep, but most will go. I guess a good starting point is to just go through my original list, right?

February 1st
Off to a new month. January was a crazy start to a new year, full of highs and lows. I have feeling that is how all of 2011 is going to be.
When I named my year, it was The Year of Positive Health. It started off great with running my first ever 10K. I was REALLY proud of myself for that. I have been doing my best to stay on top of the Marathon training, but have had a few struggles along the way.
The weather has made a huge impact in my ability to train. I'm so disappointed that I can't get outside with the 65 or so inches we have had since Christmas. Last week I hit a huge low and didn't run at all! I can't even believe I skipped a whole week!
I went back on Sunday and again yesterday, but honestly, it was a struggle. I originally was going to go tonight, but again, MORE SNOW. It took me about a 1/2 hour just to get my car parked in my driveway (after getting stuck THREE TIMES.. I am not even kidding!) This weather is KILLING me!
I am determined to focus and make sure I get in and log my miles. I really need to make sure my long weekend runs are on point. That will be HUGE for me and for my success.
As part of naming my year, my New Year's Resolution was to pick two positive and healthy habits to try every day for full month and review them at the end of the month to see if they are things I want to continue. Then the next month, I will pick 2 new habits to try.
January I started with a spending journal to work on my financial health and then my second was to hold the plank position for at least 1 minute every day. Holding plank didn't go well. I kept forgetting about it. So I made the decision that it would be a habit for February since I lost it before mid January.
The spending journal is still a work in progress. I had so many days that I didn't spend any money at all. Then I had crazy bills, the $250 registration fee for the marathon plus the $100 deposit. It was $119 to get my taxes done, plus I owed still for the football pool I had been in and that was $50. I spent $110 between a couple of nights out, including a fundraising cabaret show a friend was in (including what I spend for the food and drinks we brought in). $45 was at Target on undies that fit and ear buds for my IPod (mine stopped working and I use them for running). I spent $80 on a massage, $15 on 2 exercise classes. The rest was food and bills (car, car ins, rent, electric bill, cable bill, etc).
SO to get a better idea on where my money is going, I want to keep going with this, at least for another month. I want to really figure out what I'm doing and I think I need more time for that. I know I'm getting my federal taxes back soon and I know that I will be spending money differently when that comes in, but I still need to know where this $1300 is going to go.
I will continue to use the spending journal. This is something I still need and a tool that I will continue to use to determine where my money goes. I'm chalking the plank to a failure for January. I made it maybe 10 days.
My February healthy habits... take 2 on the plank position. I need to find a way to make sure I hold myself accountable for it. I just wrote it "done" in my spending journal. At least that's a habit I got use to, so if I write in there, I'll have a way to remember.
My second habit for February? Well, seeing as it is almost 10pm on the first of the month, I need to come up with one I can do now. Hmm... Ok, not thrilled about it, but I will write 3 things each day that I am grateful for. I guess that means that I have 2 hours to come up with 3 for today? Why am I not excited about this?
First thing I am grateful for... I am grateful that I have a very large and amazing support system. I have great friends, old and new. I have a huge family I can count on. People I would never have expected it from have supported my marathon fundraising efforts and encouraged me in my training. I am incredible grateful for the people I have in my life.
The second thing I am grateful for... I really am grateful for the opportunity to run in the Boston Marathon. I am so terrified, but this is HUGE HUGE thing. SO many people can't do this who want to. And here I have the chance! I am scared and I struggle with the training and fundraising but I am so grateful for the chance to accomplish this.
The third thing I am grateful for today is that my boss listens to me. I had an amazing review yesterday but was told that I was not getting a raise. I was obviously extremely unhappy with that. I needed to wrap my head around it, digest it and get my thoughts together. I emailed her last night and asked her if we could talk today. My desk is in a semi private area, but one wall only goes half way up and others sit on the other side of it. I called her tonight from home and she listened to all of my concerns and hopefully I will hear back something better.
And funny, now that I started, I have more to add. I am grateful for my neighbor who has a snow blower and did my sidewalk and also the end of my driveway after he saw me get stuck in it when I got home from work. I don't know what I would have done if he hadn't done that.
Ok, for now I'll stop there. I guess this is something I am going to have to do daily now too.
SO... Goals/Habits for February.
1. Continue with my spending journal to determine my spending habits.
2. Do plank position every day for at least a month.
3. Write out 3 things I'm grateful for every day.
4. Be on top of my running and training schedule.
