Why do I always put things off for the absolute last minute? Again and again, I never learn! I have known for a year that I was going away today. A nice 5 day weekend down the Cape. I've known this.
I was tired last night, so after playing solitare and watching the new season of "So You Think You Can Dance", I went to bed around 10:15. Didn't sleep well, tossed and turned, and the alarm went off at 5am.
As of now (at 7am) I have taken the trashed out, changed the kitty litter, put the laundry in the dryer, and made a few lists. That's it. I'm laying on my bed, on my lap top, thinking of the rest of the cleaning I need to do before Karla gets to my house, and thinking of all the packing I should be doing.
Oh yeah, I did take a bunch of crap out of my car so I can fit in our bags. OH NO! I need to remember to pack the toaster oven too!! Damn. Didn't put that on the list.
Why did I make plans for every single night this past week? And why haven't I started packing yet? I'm keeping my fingers crossed that work is going to let us out at 3pm, but for some reason, I'm just not feeling it this year! URGH! Karla is going to kill me! At least Karla is often VERY VERY late, so that should buy me some time later.
I have SO much to do and I need to get in the shower to get ready for work! URGH!! Again, why do I always put things of for the absolute last possible minute???

Originally I wanted to get out there and meet new people... now I have something on my calendar for every single day over the next two weeks. Now I don't know when I am going to clean my house, do laundry and pack for my weekend away over Memorial Day weekend. Nice thing to complain about I guess.
One of my goals this year was to meet new people. That was part of the reason I joined "Meetup.com". I'm pretty excited about how that is working out with the group I was out for dinner with tonight. I really like this group. There are some great women in it. Tonight was so much fun. I didn't realize that the group had just started when I first joined it.
Because I have gone to quite a few events with them, I am really starting to get to know so people with this group. I'm even going to a club with them next weekend. So I think I am starting to work on the "make 5 new friends" thing with my 101 list. I can see a few friendships starting to develop and this is kind of cool!
Right now I'm just more excited about getting away this weekend. I am leaving Friday night and coming home on Wednesday. I really need this break and the Cape will be the right thing for me. Again, need to find time to do laundry and pack.. and I really should clean my house, seeing as Karla will be meeting me here. I don't think she really wants to see how bad I have let it get. I just HATE cleaning. Nothing fun about that.
Hmmm.. what else is going on (seeing as it has been almost 2 weeks, I should fit everything in, right?)
Work.. INSANE, but at least someone new started today. I hate training, but if I train her right, my life will be easier overall. I am afraid to almost be excited about the way things are turning out at work. I'm causiously optomistic about the way things are going.
Dating.... geez, I don't have a enough time to write about that. I figured that I need to put myself out there and let friends know that I am interested in be "set up". The on line dating thing isn't going wonderfully, so maybe friends might know of someone that might be a good fit for me. I put it out there and we'll see. I met someone on line, but too many flags are coming up. I'm not completely shutting myself off to him, but I'm not super interested anymore at this point.
Already did my 2 outside my comfort zone things this month. I need to start thinking about June! :)
Ok... starting to crash. Time to go to bed! NITE!

How did you spend your Cinco de Mayo??
Last night after work I did a little shopping, then stopped at the local restaurant for dinner sitting at the bar. It's one of those local places with all regulars, so I feel pretty comfortable going in there alone.
After I park myself on a bar stool, I notice the Irish Guy to my left, a woman Jules on his left, and an older guy on her left. Vanessa the bartender is working...LOVE HER! I order my beer, decide on dinner and sit back to watch the Sox kick some Yankees butt.
I'm chatting it up with the crowd to my left, talking sports and having fun. In walks this big burly man... we'll call him Michael as in the size of Michael Clark Dunkin!!! He's HUGE!!!! But Irish guy yells out HI and Michael knows Vanessa, the bartender, so all is good.
At this point, a much older man is sitting on my right, and Michael is on his right. Micheal buys Irish guy a margarita for Cinco de Mayo, then buys me my next Coors light. (I tried to argue, but really, is it worth the effort for a $3.50 beer?)
So I start chatting with Michael as we are watching sports. He works for the Boston Garden, helping to switch from Ice to the floor between Celtics and Bruins games... pretty cool. I told him that for Thursday night, I'll be flicking, the Celtics, Bruins and Sox are all playing at the same time!! (quick side note... watching all 3 as I'm writing this, and all 3 are currently winning! GO BOSTON!)
The the old guy between us leaves.
Michael says, "Would you be interested in going to the game tomorrow night?"
I said, "Yeah, I'd be interested, who wouldn't!"
He said, "No really, I work there, would you want 2 tickets to the Celtics game? I can get them."
I said, "yeah, twist my arm!"
So, I give Michael my phone number so he call me on Thursday about getting me the 2 tickets. Then he says we can meet up at a bar across the street after the game.
At that point I realize I'd have to bring one of my friends, and not a guy... just wouldn't feel cool bring a date to meet the guy who just GAVE me 2 ticket, ya know?
We keep on chatting, then I get my least favorite question thrown at me, "why are you single?" And I give the standard response... I don't want to settle, I'm not going to be with someone just to be with someone, I don't need to be in relationship, if I'm with someone it's because I WANT to be with someone not because I HAVE to be in a relationship... blah blah blah.
(this is where the conversation starts to go downhill pretty quickly)
He says back to me, "Yeah, I'm not looking for a relationship either... So, do you want to have sex?"
Me, "Um, What?"
Him, "I'm honest. I don't need a relationship. Do you want to have sex? I like you."
Me, "What?"
Him, "Well, what are you looking for?"
Me, "Um, I don't know. I'm not looking for just that. If I want just that I can have just that."
(this is where the conversation is no longer going downhill... it has just fallen off a cliff!)
Him... as he's staring at my feet in my flip flops and not only licking his lips, his tongue is so big, he's licking half his face... "I'm a foot man"
EEEEWWWWWEEEEE!!!!!

The Dalai Lama
Valarie picked me up bright and early and after a quick stop at Dunkin we were on our way to Gillette Stadium to hear the Dalai Lama speak. Coffee was good because I don’t think either of us were very Zen like sitting in traffic with people trying to cut us off. (We were seeing the Dalai Lama people! CHILL OUT!)
(Quick side note… what is the intelligence needed to be a parking lot attendant with a big orange flag? I ask because there was no reason we had to wait that long to park! These people! Seriously! What do you do during football season???)
So we finally park. Waiting in line to get through security, people don’t understand why they can’t bring in bottles of water. (I say to the guy checking my ticket, not the normal event crowd, huh? I mean, really, would that happen at a football game?)
The event is great. He talks all morning, then we break for lunch (mc d’s for $20 to 2 people!) then he talks in the afternoon. The sky clears, and the sun comes out… GREAT afternoon. Well, the Dalai Lama got hot and wanted a hat… so he got one! LOVE THIS PICTURE!!!

So the day ends and we are driving home… we make it up Rt 95 to the merge with 128. As we are on the ramp, all of these motorcycle cops come flying past us. At least 10 or 15 of them! Mass State Police, Cambridge Police, everyone! When we get to the top of the ramp, where we merge onto 128, they have Rt 128 in completely stopped! NO one is moving! We are one of the last cars to get through, a couple of SUV’s are behind us.
Then as we are driving, a bunch of the motorcycle cops come flying past us! They start blocking traffic from getting onto the highway in our direction. I’ve never seen anything like this. Then Valarie finally figures it out. It has to be the Dalai Lama’s motorcade!!!
So the first SUV passes us. It’s this single woman alone chatting on her cell phone. Then the second one passes us on the left. Valarie yells out, “That’s his interrupter sitting in the front seat!! That’s the Dalai Lama’s car!!!” I am SO excited I can’t even contain myself!!!
The rest of our conversation goes like this:
ME: SPEED UP! SPEED UP! You have to get next to him! Come on!!! Pass him!!!
Valarie: Julie, I can’t! I am already going 78 miles an hour! I CANNOT go 80!
ME: Come ON!! It’s the Dalai Lama!! I’ve NEVER asked you to speed before… come ON! PLEASE!! GO FASTER!!
Val: NO! I am NOT going 80! There are cops EVERYWHERE!!
ME: They are just stopping traffic! They are NOT going to pull over someone for speeding!”
Val: Except for the 2 crazy ladies’s trying to chase the Dalai Lama!!!
I made her pass my exit, and she still never went 80, so we never caught up to the Dalai Lama. I just wanted to wave at him!!
So Val and I stopped for an ice cream, then she brought me home. I had to go to my aunt’s birthday party at the Chinese Restaurant with all of my crazy family, so after I jumped out of Val’s car, I ran inside, stopped to pee, then went back out to my car. I was about ¼ of a mile down the road when some idiot was pulling out of the gas station and stopped ½ way in the lane. I gave him the finger. Then I started laughing. So much for the peacefulness of the Dalai Lama. Guess it didn’t last very long!
